OönaPMS1 is formulated with
herbs to help regulate production of hormones and, in turn,
the menstrual cycle.* OönaPMS1 daily tablet is comprised
primarily of chaste
tree berry based with added black
cohosh. Neither black cohosh or chaste tree berry contain
hormones or hormone-like substances; however the herbs do
influence hormonal activity through the pituitary gland and
hypothalamus.* In part, chaste tree berry has been shown to
stimulate the brain to produce more of the luteinizing
hormone (LH).* Greater production of LH in turn signals
the ovaries to produce more progesterone and thus balance
the ratio of progesterone to estrogen. This leads to relief
for many women who may find themselves irritable, depressed,
and bloated right before their period. Chaste tree berry has
also been used successfully for menstruation related acne.*
Another benefit of chaste tree berry is
its ability to lower prolactin
levels.* Elevated prolactin levels have been associated with
PMS symptoms such as breast tenderness. The lowering of prolactin
concentrations in turn also raises progesterone levels. It
is this hormone balancing combination of lower prolactin and
greater LH production that not only offers many women significant
PMS relief but also a side benefit of achieving more regular
ovulation.* While chaste tree can do wonders to normalize
a the menstrual cycle, OonaPMS1 should not be taken or stopped
immediately if you think you may be pregnant.
The black cohosh in OönaPMS1,
a great counterpart to chaste tree berry,* also helps to normalize
hormone production via the pituitary gland. Although the herb
is known mostly for its aid of the symptoms of perimenopause,
it has also been shown to help alleviate PMS symptoms such
as anxiety, tension, and depression. One noted mechanism is
that black cohosh helps regulate estrogen levels in part by
binding to estrogen receptors.* Another indicates that it
runs interference with neurotransmitters.* Although more research
is needed to determine the complex way in which this herb
works, black cohosh has long-established benefits for women's
hormonal health.
Finally, we've added a "bonus
supplement" of passionflower
for women who need a little extra relief. Taken just after
ovulation ends, passionflower extract is a great complement
to chaste tree berry for women who feel especially irritable
and depressed just prior to menstruation.* Passionflower has
historically been used as a calming agent, and is particularly
helpful when physical or mental strain results in stress.*
It is not a strong pain reliever but does have a lasting and
refreshing effect on the nervous system.* Although scientists
do not know the exact compound or group of compounds that
give passionflower its medicinal value, it is clear that the
flavoniods such as vitexin play an important role. In Europe
passionflower is required to contain no less than .4% total
flavonoids calculated as vitexin This is the same standard
is applied to OönaPMS1.
OönaPMS2 is formulated
to address the frequent onset of PMS menstrual cramps and
associated headaches and/or gastrointestinal complaints.*
OönaPMS2 is a combination of an Oöna Health, Inc.
proprietary cramp
bark extract called Oöna
Bark and standardized ginger
extract. The active constituents of cramp bark have been identified
as coumarins (such as scopoletin and scopolin), tannins (primarily
catechins) and verbenalin, a known smooth muscle relaxant.*
(the uterus is made up of smooth muscle) Indigenous to North
America, cramp bark is a large shrub that belongs to the same
family as the Elder. Today, cramp bark is mostly collected
in northern Europe. Cramp bark has a long history of use in
easing menstrual cramps by working as a uterine relaxant and
general antispasmodic.* It dates back to Native American tribal
use and was also listed in The National Formulary for
many years for this use. OönaPMS2 is standardized to
the marker compound verbenalin.
Possibly one of the first plants to
be cultivated by humankind, ginger is valued by nearly every
culture around the globe. While ginger has long been known
for its ability to calm an upset stomach, it can also help
ease menstrual cramps and any gastrointestinal discomfort
that may accompany the onset of a woman's period.* Most of
ginger's therapeutic effects come from an oil called gingerol.
Gingerol eases menstrual cramps by lowering a hormone-like
substance known as prostaglandins.* As explained above, it
is the overproduction of prostaglandins that has been shown
to cause menstrual cramps.
